HTEC Teacher Training: Six Core Class Descriptions


Get started today with your new Haas CNC machine, or build and refine your existing skills, so you can do more with what you have. Learn about the six core Teacher Training classes, and the credentials you can earn by completing each course.

Core 1: Introduction to CNC Milling: Programming, Setup, and Operation

This class encompasses five 8-hour days of hands-on, project-based learning to complete multiple machined aluminum parts on Haas CNC machining centers. This class is designed for those with little or no prior experience with G-code programming, setup, or operation. Class size is limited to 5 trainees, to ensure the highest quality training possible. This course includes, but is not limited to, the following topics: safety training, machine pre-checks and startup, coolant management, tooling and workholding, setting work and tool offsets, basic G-code programming, entering and editing programs on the Haas control, adjusting wear offsets, inspection, and precision measuring via CMM.

This course enables trainees to test for the following NIMS credentials:
• CNC Mill Programming Setup & Operations (entry level)
• CNC Mill Operations (entry level)
• Measurement, Materials and Safety (entry level)

Core 2: Introduction to CNC Turning: Programming, Setup, and Operation

This class encompasses five 8-hour days of hands-on, project-based learning to complete multiple machined aluminum parts on Haas CNC turning centers. This class is designed for those with little or no prior experience with G-code programming, setup, or operation. Class size is limited to 5 trainees, to ensure the highest quality training possible. This course includes, but is not limited to, the following topics: safety training, machine pre-checks and startup, coolant management, tooling and workholding, setting work and tool offsets, basic G-code programming, entering and editing programs on the Haas control, adjusting wear offsets, inspection, and precision measuring via CMM.

This course enables trainees to test for the following NIMS credentials:
• CNC Lathe Programming Setup & Operations (entry level)
• CNC Lathe Operations (entry level)
• Measurement, Materials and Safety (entry level)

Core 3: CNC Milling: Programming, Setup, and Operation Level 1

This class encompasses three 8-hour days of hands-on, project-based learning to complete multiple machined aluminum parts on Haas CNC machining centers. This class is designed for those with basic experience with G-code programming, setup, and operation. Trainees should have a basic understanding of workplace skills, safety, measurement, math, quality, metals, maintenance, drawings (including GD&T), layout, hand tools, CNC basics, CNC mill setup and operation, and basic CNC mill G-code programming. The skills covered in the Immerse2Learn online training include CNC machining center setup, programming, and operation. Class size is limited to 5 trainees, to ensure the highest quality training possible. This course includes, but is not limited to, safety training, machine pre-checks, startup, coolant management, tooling and workholding, setting work and tool offsets manually and with Renishaw probe routines, basic G-code programming, entering and editing programs, adjusting wear offsets, machining parts, and inspecting the results with precision measuring tools and probes.

The final day of the class is dedicated to the NIMS Performance Test. The completed part is inspected on the machine, the bench, and on the CMM. If the part is within specification, then trainees will be provided with instructions for taking the theory test to complete the credential.

• CNC Mill Operations (entry level)
• Measurement, Materials and Safety (entry level)

Core 4: CNC Turning: Programming, Setup, and Operation Level 1

This class encompasses three 8-hour days of hands-on, project-based learning to complete multiple machined aluminum parts on Haas CNC turning centers. This class is designed for those with basic experience with G-code programming, setup, and operation. Core 5: CNC Milling: Programming, Setup, and Operation Level 2

This class encompasses three 8-hour days of hands-on, project-based learning to complete multiple machined steel parts on Haas CNC milling centers. This course is designed for those who have completed the CNC Milling: Programming, and Setup, and Operation Level 1 course, and have earned the NIMS CNC Milling: Programming, Setup, and Operation Level 1 credential. In some cases, this prerequisite can be waived, but trainee must first contact the HTEC Teacher Training facility they wish to enroll in. Class size is limited to 5 trainees, to ensure the highest quality training possible. This course includes, but is not limited to, safety training, machine pre-checks, startup, coolant management, tooling and workholding, setting work and tool offsets manually and with Renishaw probe routines, advanced G-code programming, entering and editing programs, adjusting wear offsets, machining parts, and inspecting the results with precision measuring tools and probes. The final day of the class is dedicated to the NIMS Performance Test. The completed part is inspected on the machine, the bench, and on the CMM. If the part is within specification, then trainees will be provided with instructions for taking the theory test to complete the credential.

• CNC Mill 2 (journey level)

Core 6: CNC Turning: Programming, Setup, and Operations Level 2

This class encompasses three 8-hour days of hands-on, project-based learning to complete multiple machined steel parts on Haas CNC machining centers. This course is designed for those who have completed the CNC Turning: Programming, Setup, and Operation Level 1 course, and have earned the NIMS CNC Turning: Programming Setup, and Operation Level 1 credential. In some cases, this prerequisite can be waived, but trainee must first contact the HTEC Teacher Training facility they wish to enroll in. Class size is limited to 5 trainees, to ensure the highest quality training possible. This course includes, but is not limited to, safety training, machine pre-checks, startup, coolant management, tooling and workholding, setting work and tool offsets manually and with Renishaw probe routines, advanced G-code programming, entering and editing programs, adjusting wear offsets, machining parts, and inspecting the results with precision measuring tools and probes.
